Surface Fhobie Matias!
Anakbayan USA is enraged that another youth activist has been abducted under the US-Marcos II regime. Almost every week in the recent months have ended in at least one forced disappearance of activists at the hands of the fascist state.
Fhobie Matias joined @anakbayanph during the Covid pandemic and became a diligent organizer of the youth, urban poor, and workers, until she decided to organize among the peasants with @katipunankasamatk. On September 28, she was abducted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, while consulting with farmers and peasants in Southern Tagalog who were facing land-grabbing.
She has not been seen since her abduction, but according to texts to her mother, she was last being kept in a military camp.
As with the endless cases of forced disappearances, we know that these abductions are harrowing for the victims, often times experiencing torture, harassment, violence, psychological warfare, red-tagging, threats against their loved ones, and more. During the Philippine budget deliberations in the past months, it was found that 81% of the PNP’s funds (Php 168.9B) are allocated to police patrol and confidential activities against “subversives,” which they equate with anyone brave enough to speak out against the corrupt system. Anakbayan USA rejects this vile, US-backed use of the people’s money.
As we continue on into October, as not only Filipino American History Month, but Peasants Month, Filipino youth in the US refuse to be silent in calling out the treacherous attacks on peasant youth organizers in our homeland.
AFP, STOP ABDUCTING YOUTH ACTIVISTS!
