Take action to defend southern tagalog!

Anakbayan-USA denounces the “Bloody Sunday” massacre and raid that left 9 activists dead and 6 others arrested across different parts of the Southern Tagalog region. The attacks continued even after the raids as police and military traumatized and harassed families of the victims by barring them from retrieving the bodies of their loved ones and illegally detaining in a funeral parlor in Antipolo, Rizal.

Coming at the heels of Lumad bakwit school raids in Cebu and the killing of 9 indigenous Tumandok people in Capiz and Iloilo, the Duterte regime, with its fascist police and military forces, has the blood of the Filipino masses on its hands. We point especially to General Antonio Parlade Jr., Southern Luzon Commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the mastermind behind not only these attacks, but also the constant vilification of activists by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), of which he leads.

We also condemn the Biden administration for continuing to support dictators like Duterte who make a business out of murder. Despite promising not to cozy up to dictators, under Biden, the Pentagon has already offered a list of weapons and hardware to give to the Duterte regime. This comes after US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin met with Philippine Secretary of Defense Delfin Lorenzana to supposedly strengthen ties between the two countries. In reality, the only thing such discussions strengthen is Duterte’s ability to massacre the Filipino people, as the Southern Tagalog raids so clearly demonstrate.

We call on all youth and allies of the Filipino people to join us by:

  1. Donate to support activists and their families in Southern Tagalog who need our help after the attack: tinyurl.com/ichrpfund

  2. Participating in a phone and email barrage to the Philippine Embassy tomorrow, March 12, to demand the immediate release of those imprisoned, an independent investigation of the raids, an end to weaponizing search warrants against activists, and the immediate termination of Gen. Parlade

  3. Signing the petition to Biden and Congress demanding that the U.S. end its support of the Duterte dictatorship

  4. Endorsing the Philippine Human Rights Act to cut U.S. military aid to the Philippines

  5. Calling on Congress to end unequal military agreements with the Philippines that train killer cops and soldiers

  6. Joining us in protest actions across the country in the coming days

  7. Joining Anakbayan-USA or other organizations in the mass movement fighting to end Duterte’s tyrannical rule: tinyurl.com/JoinAnakbayan
