Take to the Streets! Reject a Marcos-Duterte Stolen Election!
Anakbayan-USA fully rejects the Marcos-Duterte tandem’s stolen “victory” in the national Philippine election. Their campaign was built on gross voter disenfranchisement, vote-buying, intimidation, disinformation, red-tagging, and violence in the several past months of campaigning, and especially in the last 24 hours. Even before the campaign period, Marcos and Duterte built their political dynasties over decades’ worth of scheming to revise history and silence opposition.
The results of the election are not only questionable based on the reports of widespread vote counting machine failures, massive lines of people unable to vote before the deadline, illegal campaigning, and blatant red-tagging and disinformation; they are ultimately unacceptable.
We refuse to accept an administration that represents the most vile problems of Philippine society: massive corruption and abuse of power to enrich personal wealth; systematic repression of the people's right to land and decent livelihood; and complete subservience to foreign masters, most especially the U.S., but also China. Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte are complicit in the crimes of their fathers, and have promised to continue in their cruel legacy. We will not allow leadership of our country to fall into the hands of children of mass murderers, of dictators who have committed crimes against humanity, of incompetent “leaders” who did nothing but sink the country into further poverty, debt, and health crisis.
To all Filipinos: we exercised our democratic right to vote, and mobilized in the hundreds of thousands to one million to fight for the Opposition. Now it is time to exercise our democratic right to protest, to mobilize once again in the millions and translate our people power into a material force to prevent the return to power of both Marcos and Duterte. As Filipino youth, let us fulfill our responsibility to build the future we wish to see for our people by channeling our revolutionary legacy of toppling fascists.
