BREAKING NEWS: The U.S. government launched a secret anti-vax campaign in the Philippines to undermine China
A special report by Reuters interviewed over dozens of top military officials, weapons contractors, social media analysts, and academic researchers has unveiled that the U.S. military (then under the Trump administration, but continued by Biden until 2021) created and ran phony social media accounts resembling real Filipinos to peddle propaganda and psychological operations meant to sow distrust among Filipinos against China’s Sinovac vaccination against the novel Coronavirus disease.
With complete and utter disregard of millions of Filipino people’s lives, the U.S. military played a direct role in stirring up Sinophobic sentiments among the masses as part of its larger strategy to counter Chinese imperialism for geopolitical dominance in the Asia Pacific region, resulting in the thousands of lives lost to COVID and a tense sentiment which continues today.
Under the Duterte regime, Filipinos experienced the worst COVID-19 outbreak in Southeast Asia and were subjected to one of the longest and most violent crackdowns in the world with a militaristic response to the pandemic. The Filipino people endured multiple lockdowns and strict curfews, which restricted access to resources and aid, further normalized the state’s neglect, and exacerbated impunity.
The reactionary administration was not only unable to contain the virus, but even used the pandemic as an opportunity to further line their own pockets. The Pharmally scandal in 2021 revealed the Duterte regime’s schemes of using public funds to purchase overpriced PPE, towards the benefit of the bureaucrat capitalists and their business partners.
Trump’s presidency may have lapsed in the midst of the pandemic lockdown in 2020, but U.S. imperialism under the Biden administration continues provoking China and has positioned itself to maintain semi-colonial control over the Philippines as a launching pad for U.S. wars of aggression.
In a country with an already weak healthcare infrastructure due to government neglect, the U.S. took advantage of a global public health crisis and employed psychological operations and biological warfare to intentionally mislead the Filipino masses, using them as pawns in the U.S.’s inter-imperialist rivalry with China.
Though it may pretend to defend the people against Chinese incursion in Philippine waters, the special report (with sources from audits of the Pentagon’s operations itself) reveals without a shadow of a doubt the lengths that U.S. imperialism will go in order to preserve its political and economic interests -- even at the cost of tens of thousands to millions of innocent Filipino lives.
Under Marcos Jr., the Filipino people continue to face state neglect and are treated as mere bargaining chips to be fed to the imperialist monster. El Niño continues to wreak widespread agricultural damage and water shortages while the recently concluded Balikatan military exercises deprive fisherfolk of food and livelihood.
At the same time, the U.S.-Marcos II regime allows for the hysteria of “Chinese spies” to take center stage in the government’s political theater, in order to distract from the more overt and overwhelming occupation of U.S. troops in the Philippines.
Instead of meeting the needs of the toiling masses in the U.S., another $493 million has been spent to contract General Dynamics IT in February 2024 to continue providing influence services for the military.
Under its fascist rule, the U.S.-Marcos regime continues to push Filipino youth closer towards the military as an escape from economic hardship, only to be used as canon fodder for U.S. wars of profit; while the talents of students and young professionals are wasted to produce weapons of mass destruction.
The Filipino youth and people deserve funds for health, services, and education, rather than to become collateral for the U.S.’s imperial agenda in the Asia-Pacific.
On the heels of June 12 which commemorates Philippine Independence Day, and in light of the upcoming Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) military exercises to commence at the end of June and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in July, Anakbayan USA calls on all Filipino youth seeking genuine Philippine independence to join the fight against both U.S. imperialism and Chinese incursion.
We demand transparency from the U.S. military on their conduct of psychological operations and for U.S. troops out of the Philippines!
NO TO U.S. PSYWAR IN THE PHILIPPINES!
U.S. OUT OF THE PHILIPPINES!
JUSTICE FOR ALL LIVES TAKEN FROM STATE NEGLECT AND POLITICKING!
MONEY FOR JOBS AND EDUCATION, NOT FOR WAR AND OCCUPATION!
